Snow! (12/23/18)

Jane photographing Spirit.
One of Jane's great shots.
Today, the kids saw their first snowfall. Everything else pales in comparison. We were at a KOA in Sullivan, just outside of St. Louis. We knew there was a chance of snow and so they had their noses pressed to the windows, hoping and hoping. Grace found White Christmas on TV and we made cocoa and ate breakfast to Bing Crosby singing. Jane and Rosalie bundled up and headed outside to take photos of Jane's Breyer horses. While outside, they noticed the snow gently begining to fall and came running back in to tell us. We jacketed up and all of us twirled and ran and caught it in our mouths. When I was showing them the snowflakes, Rosalie informed me that they were actually snow crystals and proceeded to explain thewhole snow cycle which she had learned in her homeschool co-op group.

Finally, we got cold enough to go back inside. We cleaned up and then packed the car and headed out to church in Collinsville, Illinois.  This LC-MS church has 400 members! (Probably more, that's just how many were in church the previous Sunday.) The children's choir led the psalmody and when children started singing, all four of our kids started looking around, puzzled, until they realized it was coming from the balcony. They loved it!

After church, we had lunch at Cracker Barrel. YUM! Then, headed out on the final leg of the journey to Fort Wayne. We pulled in about about 7:30 p.m., got the tour, showered the kids, and fell into bed. We made it!

Rosalie had been asking for corn on the cob the whole trip.
We compromised at Cracker Barrel.

Here are some extra shots that Grace took:
